Geddit? Oh Never Mind

If there's one thing that unwieldy, politically-correct, committee-heavy institutions do better than wasting money, it's finding offence where only comedy was intended.

According to WTOP, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles has taken away a Virginia man's "Kids First" vanity plates, which he personalized with the six-letter tag of "EATTHE." Yes, the plate read "EAT THE KIDS FIRST." The DMV apparently decided that the "plate advocated performing oral sex on children," rather than just, you know, being an homage to a not-trivial internet meme that's been around for years.
Behold the call for oral defiling of kids.

I can't decide whether it is very sinister, or even funnier than the original witty idea, that someone - or group of someones - possesses such a warped mind as to imagine something so perverse from an innocent joke.

But then, Bayern Munich fans suffered in much the same way recently.

European soccer's governing body barred Bayern Munich fans from displaying a Monty Python-inspired banner at Wednesday night's Champions League match, fearing the sign might offend visiting fans from the Italian club AS Roma.

The Union of European Football Associations said the banner reading "Romani ite domum" — Latin for "Romans Go Home" — was considered provocative.

In a statement, UEFA said: "Anything that may cause offense to a fan base or ethnic group, and therefore pose a security risk, including banners or symbols, is carefully vetted."
Err ...

After everyone with a brain and a basic knowledge of legendary comedy genius had stopped laughing at the humourless morons, UEFA apologised ... but it was a bit late for the joke to work by then.

I suppose i just goes to prove that if one is employed to search for offence in every possible situation, you are required to leave your sense of humour with security when passing through reception. What a great night out these committee types must be, eh? About as much fun as contracting genital warts, I reckon.

Which reminds me, did I ever tell you the one about the Englishman, the Irishman, and the miserable, overpaid, diversity compliance officer?

Damn it, DP! It seems to me that only the propaganda is important.

We smokers have been pissing about with arguments about whether or not smoking is harmful. But note that ASH NEVER ARGUE. ASH merely MAKE STATEMENTS.

We must stop accepting their terms in the argument. Let us concentrate upon SHS- SHS is the reason that we smokers are excluded from pubs. We must understand, and try as best we can to 'educate' others, that SHS is harmless.

Why is SHS harmless?

Not one single person has ever been proven to have died as a result of SHS - not one.

But none of this is important. What is important is the RIGHT of publicans to decide (property rights). Also, the freedom to assemble without state interference - ANY state interference.

Remembering that we are all being subjected to propaganda, we must hold fast to our property rights and our freedom of assembly.

Forest is doing a good job, politically. I have no doubt that Forest is trying to expand our influence. But I am not sure that Forest has any conception of our legitimate, ancient rights to be free.

Sadly, this is one trend that isn't going to go away (even if iDave's coalition plans result in the wholesale sacking of all diversity officers everywhere, which we know they won't).

There's just too many people now who have absorbed the concept that no-one should ever hear or read anything which they find personally offensive. Thus we have the ludicrous spectacle of the woman in the Paul Chambers airport Tweet affair writing a column in CiF about the hoaxer @MrKennethTong and how he should be prevented from causing 'harm' to anorexics under Article 10...
